Philiswa Gcaba is famously known to us as the glue that keeps our team together, and Dr Julia’s right hip. She is our lay counsellor and translator. She works closely with Julia and Tracey on ward rounds but is essential to the whole team. Philiswa is also a key contact with the patients that come through our doors. She knows all the patients, their needs and stories and she is very passionate about helping everyone. She is a loving and friendly person who likes to communicate with different people and learn new things from people of all walks of life. Her passion to help children in need drives her on a daily basis ensuring all patients are well taken care of in the hospital setting and when they home. She loves doing home visits. Her plan and goal for this year is to bless all the children with a Christmas gift and some back-to-school hampers. Philiswa is a true model of compassion and dedication to the work and cause of Umduduzi. She embodies the word “comforter”, always willing to go the extra mile.
