Sister Duduzile Gretta Nyawo
I’m Duduzile Nyawo, a retired professional nurse that was born and bred in Durban,
KwaZulu Natal and I am 63 years old. I’m currently working part time for Umduduzi
Palliative Care from March 2023.
I did my general nursing at King Edward Hospital in the year 1982, and in the year
1985, I started practicing as an enrolled nurse. In 1992, I continued with my studies
and thereafter, I became a professional nurse. In 1995, I obtained my midwifery at
King Edward Hospital. In 2001 I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Nursing Sciences
with majors in Health Service Management, Community Health Services, Health
Service Education and Occupational Health Services. In the year 2002, I moved from
King Edward Hospital to commision lnkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital where I
continued to work in a paediatric ICU. In 2005, I obtained my Post Basic Certificate
in Critical Care Nursing Science. In 2006, I was awarded the best nurse in Paediatric
ICU.l worked as Deputy Ward Manager till retirement. Lastly, in 2022, I registered for
Paediatric Palliative Care course before retirement.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, and reading.
I have a strong passion for working with children, and that is why even after
retirement, I chose to continue to work with them through Palliative Care.
