Gia Hope Norman born in August 2020 during the COVID pandemic. She diagnosed at 6 months with infantile osteopetrosis, Gia was the 2nd child in her family with this diagnosis, a life threatening and life limiting illness. She was referred early on in her life to Umduduzi hospice care for children. Her family had known early on in her life that she would require a bone marrow transplant, but there was no sibling match or donor available for a bone marrow transplant. Gia received pain management, the family received emotional support and care from the Umduduzi team and she later passed away in September 2022. She had a peaceful demise at home surrounded by her parents and family.
