6 Year old girl gets a final ride home

This beautiful girl was diagnosed for the first time 4 weeks ago. She has a metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma, effectively a very large tumour in her abdomen that had already spread to her bones and spinal column. When we first saw her she was paralysed from the waist down with a broken arm and leg because of the cancer spread. The oncologist’s were only able to offer her some palliative radiotherapy, x-rays to the tumours to help shrink them a little, but there was nothing else they could do to cure the cancer. With the help of the Umduduzi Team, the decision was made to get her home to spend her last days with family and friends. St John’s ambulance agreed to transport her all the way into the Valley of A Thousand Hills via the district surgeon in Pinetown. To apply for a care dependency grant she needed to prove she was real and unwell. She is now comfortable at home in the care of her loving family. Umduduzi will continue to support them but the wonderful team at Hillcrest Aids Centre have offered to continue her end of life care at home. Thank you to all our supporters for making this possible
